A work permit is an official document issued by the Canadian government that allows foreign nationals to work in Canada for a specific period. It is a pathway for temporary residency in Canada.
To obtain a Canadian work permit, a foreign national must meet the following requirements:

2. A positive LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) from Employment and Social Development Canada
(ESDC) or an LMIA exemption.
3. Prove that they meet the requirements of the job offer.
4. A valid passport or travel document.
5. Pass a medical examination if required.
6. Pass a security check if required.
7. Prove that they will leave Canada at the end of their authorized stay.
There are two types of Canadian work permits:
1. Employer-specific work permit: This type of work permit allows the foreign
national to work only for the employer who has provided them with a job offer.
2. Open work permit: This type of work permit allows the foreign national to
work for any employer in Canada, except for those who have failed to comply with the conditions
of the Canadian work permit program.
1. Work experience in Canada can enhance career opportunities.
2. Opportunity to gain Canadian work experience and improve language skills.
3. Possibility of obtaining permanent residency in Canada through the Canadian Experience Class
(CEC) or other immigration programs.
The validity of a Canadian work permit varies depending on the type of work permit and the job offer. It can be issued for up to four years or less, depending on the job offer. A work permit can also be extended under certain conditions.
